The original sex symbol of Paleolithic Europe, created 30,000 before present day. I saw the original Venus of Willendorf in Austria as a tween, as my own body was blooming quietly under baggy shirts and crooked glasses. I recognized her power and importance, but her faceless head scared me. Where were her eyes? Why didn’t she have hands or feet? Incapable of movement or perspective.

Now I see her as a permission slip for embodiment, a ripe figure of feminine radiance, power and divinity. She bled, bore life and inspired all with her voluptuous, capable form. May we all aspire to be this luscious! 

My Portals series inspired this 12x12” painting. I’m creating a series of Mother Goddess portraits, a coven of embodied sisters.
